Summer Heat Style Tips

Navigating your style during the summer months can certainly be tricky but it definitely does not have to be boring.

Summer is a time when we enjoy the warm months by going to the beach, having backyard barbeques, taking vacations, participating in outdoor activities or simply enjoying the summer months with our friends and family.

The summer of 2020 however has been a little different. The Covid 19 pandemic has limited our activities, but if you are like me, we still want to look cute for our outdoor patio dinner, grocery and errand runs or the weekend road trip to the coast.

Light and Airy

Lightweight summer cotton pieces work best in the hot months. I like to wear cute little dresses or separates that are loose to the body like this cute LoveShackFancy cotton top and skirt. It’s the perfect mix of looking fashionable and cute while still managing to remain cool. I unbuttoned the bottom two buttons and knotted it while wrapping a pink cotton macrame belt around my waist. I chose to wear a light cotton sneaker but a summer sandal or wedge is a perfect option.

 Pants

The idea of pants sticking to your skin may not sound appealing in the heat but choosing a pant that is a loose style in a lightweight cotton fabric and pairing it with a tank or tee is a great option. Finish your outfit with a cute pair of sandals or white sneakers. If you want to wear denim be sure to find a lighter wash and lighter fabric but pair with a loose, breezy top.

Shorts

The obvious choice for summer style tends to be shorts but with all the styles in the stores or online, it’s hard to know which style is the right one. My first tip is to absolutely choose what looks best on your figure. You know your body best so don’t always follow fashion trends if it’s not a flattering choice. I like looser styles and I sometimes size up one size for a more flowy look. A linen or natural fabric short is a great option with a button up short sleeve blouse or tee. I also love the tie dye trend right now so a cute little tie dye short is a super stylish option, particularly a sweat short since our quarantine sweats are out of the question right now. Curl up on your couch with your quarantine short set and be cute enough to run out for an afternoon iced coffee break!

Jewelry

Jewelry does not have to take a backseat during summer. I know some of you are afraid to wear your jewelry when it’s hot, but you need to make sure you pick the right pieces. I always start off with a lightweight gold link chain necklace. Gold is my preferred metal for summer because it really just looks good with everything, The paperclip style link is so perfect right now and it’s the best base layer option. From there, add on a pendant style necklace that’s a bit longer or add a similar link necklace without a charm. I also like a stretch bracelet because it’s easy to slide on and off. Add these accessories to your outfit every day and it will add just the right amount of style to your oufit!

Summer is long and hot but also the perfect time to wear all the cute summer styles. During a heatwave we just have to be more aware of the fabrics we choose and style of clothing we wear so we don’t overheat and feel uncomfortable, but yet still look and feel super stylish!!
